Show 1 City Council Approves Tractor Purchase, I Adopts Ordinance in Regular Meeting The City Council, in regular meeting last Thursday evening, 'approved the purchase of a neW tractor-loader for the city street department, adopted two ordinances, ordi-nances, tentatively approved a new subdivision, agreed to cooperate coop-erate on the employment of an additional dispatcher for the state traffic patrol office and took steps to prepare a tax levy for the coming year. Bids were opened for the purchase pur-chase of the new tractor-loader for the street department, to replace re-place the badly worn old ma chine in use for the past several years. The bid of the Cate Equipment Equip-ment Company of $8,350.00 for suplpylng an Allis Chalmers tractor trac-tor was accepted since it was the lowest bid for a machine meeting meet-ing the specifications required. Delivery was made Tuesday. Other bids submitted were as follows: Helner Equipment Company, Com-pany, $8,750; Wheeler and Kershaw, Ker-shaw, $9,995; Lang Company, $8,440; Arnold Machinery Company, Com-pany, $7,300. The Heiner bid was .for a tractor with rubber tires, whereas the specifications required requir-ed a track type machine, and the Arnold company bid was tor a gasoline burning tractor, instead of diesel fuel as requested In the call for bids. Trailers as Residences One of the ordinances adopted by the Council prohibits the location lo-cation of trailer houses on lots within the city to be used as residences. The ordinance provides pro-vides that such trailer houses can be located on a lot, other than trailer courts, only for use by a family permanently occupying the lot and while the family is preparing living quarters through the construction of a home. A permit must be acquired from the city to locate a trailer house on such lot, and only one permit, for a six-months period, may bo issued. It also prohibits removal remo-val of the weels of the trailer and boarding up the sides or placing on a permanent foundation Regulations with regard to the lolation of the trailer on the lol 'is also provided. Adopts State Code The other ordinance adopts the state traffic code as the traffic cade for Cedar City, a move to bring enforcement within the city limits into coordination with state regulations. The Council agreed to cooperate cooper-ate with the county and Parowan Paro-wan City in paying the salary of a third dispatcher for the state highway patrol office in Cedar City. The city treasurer was instructed instruct-ed to prepare a tentative tax levy schedule for the coming year, with the provision that the total levy be the same as this year, or 2G.3 mills. The Council will study and adopt the levy at a later date. A decision was also reached to close the city office each Saturday Sat-urday afternoon during the remainder re-mainder of July and August. superintendent. Mrs. Kirkham has been with the hospital for two years and will step into the position after serving as assistant as-sistant superintendent for the past year. Mrs. Stewart will assist in the public health program in the southern Utah district, it is understood, un-derstood, devoting a considerable considera-ble amount of time with the public pub-lic schools of Iron County. |
