Show Escalante Tour Made By Area's Farmers, Ranchmen Yesterday, Wednesday, July 21 a number of interested farmers and ranchers of Iron County and surrounding counties made the annual Escalante Valley Tour under the supervision of the Coordinating Co-ordinating Council of that area. The group saw, investigated and were told of the advancements advance-ments in agriculture that are presently being made in the Es- calante Valley. The group convened con-vened at Newcastle at 10:30 and started on a tour of the smaller farms of the area. In the past the emphasis of the tour has been made on the Zuck-erman Zuck-erman Farms, largest operation in the valley; however, this year the development and equipment used on the smaller plots were first shown to the interested group. Probably one of the most interesting inter-esting sidelights to the tour was the addition of the harvest of a test plot of alfalfa in the area. Located on the Alfred Pederson farm, the Utah State Agricultural Agricultur-al College and the extension service ser-vice have planted test plots using us-ing various forms of commercial fertilizer. Next week the results of this harvest will be published in the Iron County Record. |
