Granger of Cedar City, agreed to become a candidate again for the seat he formerly held. He accepted ac-cepted th? responsibility of seeking seek-ing election in response to a "draft" initiated by a group of 1 Weber County Democrats. Mr. Granger stated that the in-sistanee in-sistanee of party leaders that he enter the race in an attempt tn regain the seat in the House of Representatives for the Democra- Itw. rtt- lf.(r,lhor with thoif Pll- il i) . .".-.v thustiastic support of his candi-j dacy prompted him to "get back! into politics" at this time. He I had been reluctant to re-enter the political field at this time, I but did so at the request of par-; ty leaders. Indications were that, 1 if Mr. Granger did not accept, the designation previously filed, by the Weber group the party would probably be without a 1 candidate to oppose Republican Douglas R. Stringfellow, who is seeking re-election. The conventions of the two par ties will be held on Aug. 7, at which time Mr. Granger and Mr. StringfeUow will become the official offi-cial candidates of their parties, However, ii is doubtful if much campaigning gets under way until after a primary run-off .election is held in the second J congressional district. I In accepting the designation Mr. Granger declared that "If elected, I will view legislation and issues from the standpoint of the nation's needs, and I will support the Eisenhower administration adminis-tration when I feel such support will best serve the interests of my constituents and the country." |
