Show Local Geological Organization Meet Tiie newly termed Geological Group in Cedar City is scheduled to meet Monday evening May 3, under the direction of Professor Parley Dalley, President, to complete final details of its organization. The primary purposes of this meeting j are for adoption of an official name. ( acceptance of the proposed consti-; consti-; tution, open enrollment of new members mem-bers and agreement on tentative plans for its first scheduled lieU trip to Death Valley National Monument, Mon-ument, California. The object of this new society is to stimulate interest In tlie geology cf Southern Utah, Northern Arizona, Southern Nevada and other adjacent adja-cent areas. It will sponsor field trips and encourage geological education especially of local character; aid in the development and utilization of our potential local mineral resources; resourc-es; and attempt to promote and encourage the collection of rocks, minerals, fossils, gems and all related re-lated lapidary work. All people of this area who are interested in the promotion of the objects of this society are Invited to tiiis meeting; new memberships will be open until the conclusion of the meeting. Members who are enrolled as of May 3, 1948 shall be regarded ns Charter Members and their names will be appended to the society's constitution. All persons making application after May 3 must be sponsored by two active members and accepted by a majority majori-ty vote of the active membership. Preliminary plans have been formed by the Field Trip Committee Commit-tee directed by Ken LeSeur, second vice president, for Hie society's first scheduled field excursion. Tentative plans have been made for a visit to Death Valley National Monument. California on May 8 and 9, subject to approval of the active members The first vice president Otto Fife, will guide the proposed trip. Mr. Fife lived and worked for several years In that area and is very ably quali fied for Its direction. The members participating will assemble at Death Valley Junction, California on May 8 between 10 and 11 a. m. They vlll then proceed as a group to various points of scenic Interest in ttie monument mon-ument and spend the night at the Furnace Creek Campground. The following morning will be spent at Death Valley Scotty's Castle and other points of Interest and the return re-turn to Cedar City will start on the afternoon of the 9th. The location, utilization and conservation con-servation of mineral resources, accumulation ac-cumulation of local rock, mineral, gem and fossil specimens; the cutting cut-ting and polishing of local specimens speci-mens for tourist trade; advertising of local scenic attractions which are basically geological In character through commerce with other geological geo-logical groups; the development and conservation of land and water resources re-sources and possible sponsorship of a local museum of rock, mineral, gem and fossil specimens |
