Show FIELDH0USE FAILS TO ATTRACT BIDDERS The Branch Agricultural college field house project was delayed considerably con-siderably Friday when bids for various var-ious phases of construction work were opened at the office of the State Building Commission In Salt Lake City. Several bids were received re-ceived on such phases of the work as plumbing and electrical work and none at all on the structural steel and structural carpentry divisions of the project This will mean that bids must be advertised again, causing a delay of at least thirty days, and of course If the response to the second call Is as limited as the first much greater great-er delay will result. The law provides that no contract con-tract can be let unless at least two competitive bids are entered, therefore there-fore the one concrete work bid did not help any. The concrete contract is of greatest great-est importance at the present time, since all other construction must wait until after the concrete Is poured. The one exception, of course Is that of excavation, but this part of the Job, which was undertaken (CoBtlaatd Back fat) Fieldhouse (Continued From Front Page) by the Chamber of Commerce, Is practically completed. The Chamber of Commerce, determined de-termined to rush the field house to completion as rapidly as possible, has again come to aid of the school In promoting the project. The Field house finance committee of the Chamber of Commerce, whose efforts ef-forts last summer were instrumental instrumen-tal in getting the project underway, has been asked to continue working work-ing under the present emergency. It seems that the solution to the problem is to Influence local contractors con-tractors in placing bids on the job, and also in assisting contractors in meeting various requirements that have cause them to refrain from bidding. The committee is composed oi Wm. Thorley, chairman; Heber Se-vy, Se-vy, F. H. Middleton, Parley Anderson, Ander-son, Stanley Bradshaw, F. B. Parkinson, Park-inson, C. R. Hunter, J. S. Prest-wlch, Prest-wlch, Hazen Cooley, Orville Isom, Reed Cox and C. B. Cooley. |
