Wins Annual i Safety Award lMt'rr3:-,Jfci nr - h rf 1 S yf i , v km, . j The Utah Plant Department of the Mountain States Telelphone and Telegraph Co. has been awarded award-ed the annual Safety Trophy for having the lowest accident rating In the Intermountain region from Canada to Mexico during 1947. This is an area serving over a quarter of the entire United States in a territory terri-tory where the hazard to telephone operation are perhaps more severe than In any other major section of the country, which adds to the sig-' nlflcance of the award. There are 18,000 telephone employees, 5000 of whom are In the Plant Department, competing In this activity. There are also approximately 1200 motor vehicles ve-hicles in use throughout the company, com-pany, their safe operation playing an Important role In this program. The rivalry towards the achievement achieve-ment Is great which Is Indicative of the interest . taken and effort put forth in the cause of safety by the employee today. The Safety award was presented to the Cedar City and Beaver Plant ! forces through Mr. Arthur Brown, Provo District Plant Superintendent, Superintend-ent, by Mr. J. J. Corlett, General Plant Safety Supervisor, and Mr. R. H. Jones, Utah (Plant Emploment Supervisor, at a meeting held In Cedar City on April 20. Mr. Corlett stated that safety was Just sound business In dollars and cents, but that the real success of a safety program was measured in the amount of human suffering that was avoided. The low rate of injuries to employees in .Utah during dur-ing the past year was a good example ex-ample of such an, objective. |
