Show Art Exhibit Draws to Close After Most Successful Season Officials of the Cedar City Art Exhibit was highly complimented Sunday by Prof. Floyd Cornaby. head cf the art department of the Utah State Agricultural college, for "A willingness to display the various vari-ous forms of contemporary art, which Is modern art, along with the older and more academic type." Prof. Cornaby was guest speaker at the second Art Exhibit program Sunday afternoon. The program also featured a display of arts and crafU along with student paintings from the University of Texas. Prof. Cornaby Cor-naby maintained that modern art Is not aly-by night thing, and that It Is not a fad, but rather an expression ex-pression of an industrial age, and expressed the opinion that It would continue In growth and development. develop-ment. It was his opinion that It Is Important Im-portant to display all types of paintings paint-ings if an exhibit is to be tiuly representative rep-resentative and to bring to the attention at-tention of art patrons all phases of A -A. I art as It Is found today. He complimented com-plimented the Cedar City group for taking the lead In Utah in accomplishing accomp-lishing the true purpose of an art exhibit. The annual event will continue until Sunday night, with the program pro-gram to be presented Sunday afternoon, af-ternoon, featuring Prof. Alvln Git-tens Git-tens of the University of Utah Art staff In a lecture on "Portraitures." The Exhibit continues to attract many visitors, ,and indications are that a large number of the paintings exhibited will be purchased at the close of the exhibit and remain m the homes and institutions of Cedar Ce-dar City. It Is understood that Prof. Cornaby selected three paintings from the local exhibit to be added to the Utah State Agricultural college col-lege art collection. Several paintings have already been selected by local lo-cal Individuals for purchase and other prospective purchasers will make final selection during the next few days. |
