Show Mayor Urges Support For Scrap Drive Urging every man, woman and child in Cedar City to hasten the clay of victory by salvaging needed scrap materials, Mayor Harry Lunt today pledged full support to the local salvage campaign. 'By turning over to the Salvage C niimt'.ee of Cedar City every a-vallable a-vallable pound of old materials, we atl can make a direct and helpful contribution to our national victory effort. "Every 50 pound of steel means another 105 mm. shell; a discarded doorknob will help make dozens cf cartridge cases; 25 tons of steel will make another tank. "I call upon every resident to search his home carefully from cellar to attic, looking for scrap iron and steel, copper, brass, zinc, aluminum, rubber, rope, burlap. Every one of these materials is needed today by American Industry for miufacture into weapons and equipment for our armed forces. "There are many tons of valuable scrap in Cedar City. We mast collect col-lect every pound of lt and see that it gets into America's war plants. Our steel mills, tank factories, shipyards, ship-yards, airplane plants and other war Industries are already exceeding exceed-ing their former production records rec-ords We can help them attain even ev-en higher production by sending them all the scrap materials we can find. John Hamilton, chairman of the local metal salvage committee announces an-nounces that a Street Captain Is to be named for every street In town, and he will be responsible for the collection of scrap metal on that street. Home owners are urged to gather all available metal In the home or around the yards and pile it in a convenient place where truckers can pick it up for hauling to the salvage depot. |
