Show Merit Examinations Announced By Welfare Board Persons wishing to secure positions posi-tions with the Department of Employment Em-ployment Security,, the State Department De-partment of Public Welfare, the State Department of Health or the United States Employment Service in Utah have until August 14 to file applications for merit examinations exam-inations for positions with those agencies. Tills Is the announcement made by LeRay S. Howell, Merit System Supervisor, 206 Newhouse Building, Salt Lake City, Utah. Mr. Howell urges that any resident of the State who Is Interested In getting on the Merit System registers reg-isters communicate with him immediately im-mediately and secure a complete description of the positions for which the tests are being given and the qualifications an individual must possess before being permitted to take the examination. Tlie date ror the tests will be announced later. la-ter. Tests will be held in several cities of the State, the location depending de-pending upon the application. The examinations will be given for 34 types of jobs with salaries ranging from $95 a month for some of the lower clerical positions to $250 a month for Director, Research Re-search and Statistics. Other jobs for which registers will be established estab-lished Include Research and Statistics Sta-tistics Analyst for the Department of Employment Security, $225 a month ;Manager, Class 1 office, U-nited U-nited States Employment Service, $215 a month; public health nursing nurs-ing positions, $110 to $160 a mouth: clerical and stenographic positions in any of the agencies, $95 to $135 a month; county welfare directors, $135 to $235; statisticians, various grades, $150 to $190; and various statistical and office machine operators op-erators $95 to $140. Mr. Howell declared that lt was impossible for him to .say just how many Jobs are open at this time or how many would be open in the future, fu-ture, but he did stress that many of the registers which had been set up a year ago and eighteen months ago have been practically depleted and that lt is Imperative that new registers be created. Mr. Howell further said that the State Agencies Agen-cies are experiencing the same kind of labor turn-over that private employers em-ployers are experiencing and that active use of the registers is certain. Persons not on duly established registers have no opportunity to secure se-cure employment in these agencies using Social Security Board administrative admin-istrative funds, Mr. Howell said.
