Show Cedar Wards Sponsor Pioneer Day Celebration The Five Cedar City L. D. S. Wards will combine their , efforts to stage a Pioneer Day Celebration in Cedar City Friday, that the committee in charge promises will be one of the best attempted In recent re-cent years. The committee is composed com-posed of a representative from the Bishopric of each Ward including, Wm. Snow, Fifth Ward, chairman; I. E. Riddle, Fourth Ward; Arthur Arth-ur Gardner, Third Ward; Elwood Corry, Second Ward; and Grant Hunter, First Ward. The feature of the day's events will be a meeting In the forenoon. This will be held in the First Ward Chapel at 10:30 a. m. The Pioneer Day address will be delivered by Grant Redford of the Branch Agricultural Ag-ricultural College faculty. An excellent ex-cellent musical program will be presented under the direction of Roy L. Halversen, and It Ls understood un-derstood the program will also Include In-clude two very Interesting readings. The committee and all Ward officials of-ficials are especially anxious to have everyone attend the meeting and enjoy this interesting program. Too little attention has been turned turn-ed to the celebration of the day commemorating the entrance of the pioneers Into Salt Lake valley and the settlement of Utah, the officials feel, and urge everyone to pause long enough to pay tribute to the pioneers and to celebrate the founding of their state. A program of sports will be held at the B. A. C. campus, starting at 3 p. m. The first event will be a softball game between the Army and Navy Aviation Cadets who are training here, and a Cedar City team. Immediately following the game sports will be held for children, child-ren, Including races and other contests. con-tests. Volley ball games will be arranged ar-ranged for adults. At 5 p. m. th" swimming pool will be open to everyone with no admission charged. charg-ed. A children's dance will be held at the open air dance hall at 6 p. m., and the final event of the day will be a Pioneer Day Dance at the same hall, with music furnished by the Rhythm Kinjs. |
