Softball is serious business Thirty teams compete in three divisions divi-sions in the Vernal Men's Softball league and it w asn't too long aijo that the softball program consisted of ju.st one league. Some years there were problems gt'UinR enough teams to play in one league, but with ten teams in three divisions having enough teams to play isn't a problem anymore. Teams competing in Division 1 are: Diggers, Spidle'JiC Knt.. KKA. Moonshiners. Young's Paint. Reid's Hallers, Kippt'rs, Outsiders. Target Trucking and High Country. Diggers. Young's, Bailers and Outsiders are four teams that go back to the early-days early-days of the one division league Division Divi-sion 2 teams are: Montague Construction. Construc-tion. Main St. Blues. Tri Cinema. Mountain Bell, Gateway Service. IUxikies, Century 21. l intah Kngincer-ing, Kngincer-ing, Hospital and Deseret. Softball teams in Division 3 are: Circle K. Morton Mor-ton Jiggers. V Si V Well Service. Dowell. Salty Oaks. Utah Power & Light, Bonanza Miners, Chevron. White Hiver and Jelco. Games are played on Tuesdays and Wednesdays in the Vernal Men's Softball Soft-ball Ix-ague and take place on four diamonds, north and south church diamonds, Ashley and high school fields. The first games tx-gin at 6 p m. and the final game starts at 9 p.m. A total of Hi games, four on each diamond, dia-mond, are played on Tuesdays and eight games, four on the Ashley and high school fields, occur on Wednesdays. The games are serious business, but the softballers also have fun out on the diamond. One such game was a battle bat-tle between lteid's Bailers and the Moonshiners. The Moonshiners were short one player so a member of the Bailer team played catcher for the opposing op-posing team. A third out was gained in an inning when the Bailers' Tim King, who was serving as the Moonshiners' Moon-shiners' catcher, tagged a Bailer base runner out at the plate. Catching the ball is the number one item as far as the outfielders are concerned con-cerned and one outfielder in the game U'tween Target Trucking and Kippers proved that point as he kept backing up and backing up for the ball He missed the ball and crashed with a heavy thud to the ground. The Vernal Women's Kastpilch League has four teams taking part in sollhall slugging action.
