Show Elementary facilities please school board "We are very pleased with the nev elementaries," said Gary Taylor school board president. Mr. Taylor's statement isn't without , good reason as the Lapoint and Davis elementaries are the finest facilities in the county. The two schools are similar in design, to save on architecture fees, and have 12 teaching stations. Carpet covers the floors and walls of both schools including the gym areas. A unique aspect of the building is the media center or library which is in the hallway. Kids are going to have to be quiet coming out of the classrooms or they will disturb students using the media center said Earl Allred, principal at Lapoint School. The kindergarten classrooms are separated from the other classrooms by administration facilities. Restrooms have open wash areas and the building is completely designed for handicapped students, with lights at each exit that never turn off, ramps and restroom facilities. Allred said it is a challenge to open a new school, because for the first year there will always be minor problems. Last week, building officials were tracking down keys to rooms in the Lapoint La-point School which couldn't be opened. Outside, the Lapoint School is ahead of the Davis School in landscaping. Grass covered dirt is brimed up the side of the buildings for energy conservation. The schools have wide hallways with bench areas for students to congregate. Both schools use rich brown colors and beige brick. They will be open to students this fall. |
