With plenty of Bee Gees x sic, flashy dancing, and the thin- ' wt excuse for a plot, the film will pro-Wy pro-Wy please loyal "Fever" fans. Manero is a talented, frustrated teer looking for the Big Role. Mean-, Mean-, he's trying his best "come-on" each of two dancers in the cast of ' show called "Satan's Alley," in hich he also dances. The performer the lead role can't deliver the maleness demanded by the director, Manero gets his chance. He even lejms a little about how to treat omen! The film tries to moralize about how Wple "use each other," but with "eak script, story and characteriza-. characteriza-. succeeds only minimally. Actual-f Actual-f this is your basic flashdance rmula film. Modern musicals generally seek to please audiences on 'Bit level with the beat, the kick, the rather than tackling either tusical excellence or involved character study. mStauyin? The main characters are portrayed as weak but well-meaning people who cannot handle their problems, but who eventually make slight changes for the better. "Class" is well-directed, with excellent ex-cellent performances by newcomer Andrew McCarthy and Rob Lowe ("The Outsiders") as the boys, Jacqueline Jac-queline Bisset as the temptress, Cliff Robertson ("Charly") as her husband, and Stuart Magolin ("Angel" on "Rockford Files") as a special investigator. |
