In fact, the abundant water during the early season should result in above average fishing conditions for the rest of the season. Lakes such as Oaks Park and Brough are unlikely to be drawn down as much as usual and stream flows should remain good until un-til well into the fall. Locally all the higher lakes, reservoirs reser-voirs and streams are accessible and North and South Fork of Ashley Creek, Hacking Lake, East Park and Brush Creek below East Park have been stocked. Oaks Park has been stocked for the first time in a number of years due to abundant water. Early success at these higher areas appears to be good. Success at East Park for both brook and rainbow was good this weekend and the bugs seem to have disappeared. The campground is open. Success at North Fork also appeared good even before catchables were planted. Fishing at the lower reservoirs and streams should be good for the rest of the season since Brough, Bullock and Steinaker have, for the first time in-years, in-years, received large inplants of cat-chable cat-chable fish. These lakes are normally only stocked with fingerling fish. Ashley Creek, below the gorge, is still quite high but those that have fished it have done well. Remember to check special regulations that apply to this area. Pelican Lake has, as usual, provided pro-vided some excellent bluegill fishing this season and some large bass (4-5 lbs.) have been taken. Fishing has slowed at Pelican in the last few weeks and most of the fish are now being caught in the deeper holes. However, in the last 3 weeks two possible state record bluegills have been taken (both about 2 lbs. 3 oz.), these weights are awaiting confirmation. Let me conclude by discussing a few regulations which still seem to confuse anglers. First, there is no size limit on bass in the Uintah Basin and the bag limit is 6. The trout stamp is required on all local waters except Flaming Gorge Dam, Pelican Lake and the Green River after it re-enters Utah. |
