Show By Janet Wallis ""-w 2 cups of sugar I goofed! yes, I really did! Somewhere in between my receipe jo, and the printed page, I goofed! please don't make Jacky Gray's js I misspelled her name, too.) folate Boiled Raisin Cake without adding two cups of sugar. Put it in the ,3ter, raisins and shortening mixture. Several dozen people have called to aik if the recipe has any sugar. Only ooeof them (thank goodness!) had jlady made the cake. I hope no one else has yet. She (the one who'd already made ibecake) said without sugar the recipe nude interesting raisin brownies. "I'd been wanting a good recipe for boiled-raisin boiled-raisin cake," she told me, "because it s my husband's favorite. So as soon as I saw it in the Express I made it. jlien he came home I cut him a piece." That's when she called me. One gal called to see if anyone had given me the recipe for the brown sugar icing. No one had or has. She didn't even notice the 2 cups of sugar lere missing, until I told her. Another wondering-sugar caller, after we straightened out the cake recipe, asked if I knew how to make cheese rarebit. I did once, but have long ago forgotten the hows and whys. So i any of you want to share a cheese rarebit recipe, please calf. And yet another caller shared a story about her Great-Aunty Kae, who was a fabulous cook, but who resented anyone asking for her special recipes. U someone insisted she tell her secrets, she sabotaged them. She'd leave out an ingredient on purpose so bo one else's would turn out the same as hers. I'm sure even Great-Aunty never left out an ingredient as obvious as 2 cups of sugar. I must admit, it was fun chatting with all of you who called. But, please forgive me, and here is a corrected copy of : Jacky Gray's Chocolate Boiled-Raisin Cake Bring to a boil: 1 pkg. seedless raisins 1 cup shortening or 2 cubes margarine 2 cups sugar 3 cups water (2 cups for boiling and 1 cup added later to help cool mixture) 2 squares chocolate Boil gently for five minutes. John Jones, now Postmaster, but once News Editor of the Express, used us-ed to say (and probably still does) when he goofed, "I'm entitled to one mistake every seven years." Entitled or not, I seem to make at least one a week. However, I hope leaving out 2 cups full of sugar from Jacky Gray's Chocolate Boiled-Raisin Cake fills my mistake quota for quite awhile. |
