Show Vernal drowns Steamboat Springs Sailors, 75-37 Vernal Junior High's wrestling team crushed the Steamboat Springs Sailors on the road Jan. 13 by the score of 75 to 37. Meinborne, Steamboat Springs, downed Vemal's Brian Richens 7 to 1 in the 85 pound match and Mike Smith, Vernal, blanked Halverson, 98, 11-0. Vemal's Ryan Siddoway, 98, nipped Jim Davis 3-2 and Miller, 105, of Steamboat Springs downed Joe Newell 11-7. Wayne Masciarelli, Steamboat Springs, edged Mitch Hall 7-6 in a 105 pound contest. Georee Cook, Vernal, edged Barber 2-0 at 119 pounds and Craig Funk, Vernal, pinned Matt Erhart, 126, in the first round. Taylor of Steamboat downed Monte Mecham 12-8 and Robert Merrill, 126, pinned Dody in the third round. Gary Murray, Vernal, annihilated Cooper 21-0 21-0 in a 132 pound match and Larry Huber, Vernal, 138, pinned Mack in the first round. Vemal's Mike Slaugh pinned Thomas in the first round and Derek Cross, Vernal, 155, pinned Petry in the second round. Richard Horrocks, 85, lost due to a pin and Brian Smith, 112, gained a first round pin in his match with F.rhardt. Cooper pinned 132 pounder, Caldwell, and Vernal's Price pinned Mack. Davis downed Smith of Vernal 5 to 2 and Rick Porter, 145, pinned Thomas in the first round. Snash of Steamboat pinned Chad Jenkins in the first round and Yandell blanked Sullivan of Vernal lo o. Olnthe's junior varsity pocketed first place in tlx- Meeker Tournament Saturday with 117 points and Vernal Junior High placed second at 107 points. Fruita placed third at R9'2 and Meeker netted fourth place at 72 points. StenmlxMit Springs placed fifth at 55's counters and Craig netted sixth place at 46 points. Mont rose placed seventh at 32 and Grand Junction placed eighth at 24 points. Venial was the only junior high team and the rest were high school junior varsity teams. Smith, Vernal, placed first at m xnmds when he blanked Kawcett of Mcvkcr 9 0. Ryan Siddoway placed second in the 90 pound class. Grett of Olathe downed Newell for first place In the 105 pound class and Smith of Slcamlxwit Springs edged Funk 5 to 2 for first place. Also placing in tlx' meet were Kichens, I.arry Wiseman, Cook, Merrill, Murray, Huber and Slaugh. The Vernal tusslers will battle the Vikings at West Junior High Thursday and will host Roosevelt Saturday. |
