UTES FINALLY TAKE ONE 20-19 After six sucessive defeats the Uintah Uin-tah Utes broke into the winning column last Saturday evening in a thrilling game against Craig High School here at the Uintah gym. The final score was 20-19 in favor of the Utes. The game was very closely played as Uintah took an early lead for the first half, then Craig took over and held it until the last minute or two when Brent Feltch, Uintah center, tossed in the winning win-ning basket. Halstead, Preece and Feltch carried the brunt of the scoring for the Utes. Avargas was high scorer for Craig and played a beautiful ball game. Uintah's starting lineup was: Wayne Halstead and Dick Hullinger, forwards; for-wards; Brent Feltch, center; Ralph Bryson and Lowell Caldwell, guards. DUCHESNE AND ROOSEVELT LEAD DM SCHOOL HOOP RACE Duchesne and Roosevelt still lead in Region 5 hoop play as a result of their third consecutive victories Wednesday evening. Uintah is following closely on their heels with 2 wins and a loss. Alterra, which had lost two games and won one, is in third spot, while Alta-mont Alta-mont and Tabiona share the cellar with no victories to date. Uintah's fighting Utes scalped Tabiona Ta-biona in a one sided fracas Wednesday evening, 35-17. Uintah's defense was too tight for the Tabiona hoopsters keeping them out of pay territory and forcing them to try many long shots, most of which failed to find the hoop. Uintah made first score within a few seconds following the opening toss and was never threatened. Ute coach Frank Wright -substituted freely. Bob Williams, Uintah forward, was high man with ten points. In a thriller which ran into two overtime over-time periods and left both spectators and players exhaustedfrom excitment and suspense, the Duchesne Eagles nosed out the Alterra Spartans 29-27. The lead continually changed hands throughout the game. Seconds before the final gun with Duchesne leading 25-23, Hacking, Spartan guard, tossed one from the middle of the floor to tie the score. Wardle, Alterra forward, sent fans into in-to a frenzy when he scored in the first overtime period. Rife, Eagle forward, seconds later sunk a long shot from the side lines to again even matters at 27-27. Rife once more made good when he tossed another long shot from near the side lines in the final overtime session to sew the game up for the Eagles. Rife, fast and shifty, was the outstanding player. He was especially hot with his long shots. Dahlberg, Spartan forward, starred on defensive play, and Wardle was the stellar offensive player for the losers. Roosevelt's Rough Riders found the basket in the second half of their game with the AlLamont Longhorns and galloped to a 42-19 victory. The teams were fairly evenly matched during the first two stanzas. However, following the halftime period, the Rough Riders tightened their defense and sparked by-Clark, by-Clark, guard, who rung six field goals out of eight tries, easily pulled ahead of the Longhorns. Every man on the Roosevelt team saw action. Friday's games saw the Utes lose to Duchesne to the tune of 30-23 in one of the best played games of the season. AJterra scored an easy victory over Altamont and Roosevelt by virtue of a strong defense eeked a victory over Tabiona Ta-biona 27-21 in a contest which witnessed many tries for the basket but few scores. ROOSEVELT DEFEATS UINTAH In a game rich with surprises and ia which most of the scores for both teams were made in a single inning, tie Roosevelt squad nosed out the Uintah team Friday to a one point victory. Seven innings were played. In the last half of the third, the Roosevelt teaa batted around once and scored six rua. When the Uintah gang came to bat again, in the first half of the fouri, they had blood in their eyes. Tfcw staged a comeback, against the Roosevelt lead and scored six tices themselves. In this inning they band completely around. Joe Milbum, wis came to bat twice, made two hits it a single inning. Wooley, King. Johnsc, and Milburn made the runs for the Uintah team.
