Show STKKI.SIIOT NOT HKQL'IRFI) IN UTAH Steel shot will not be required for waterfowl hunting in Utah during the 1982-83 or 1983-84 seasons (except on the federally managed Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge), according, to a motion approved by the Wildlife Board at a Jan. 14 meeting in Salt Lake City. The Board will attempt to give shotgun vendors at least 24 months to prepare for selling steel shot if its use is adopted in Utah. The Wildlife Board does not plan to require steel shot, unless a mandate is given bv the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. According to criteria recently adopted by the Pacific Fly way Council to define areas of non-toxic shot use within the Flyway, the amount of lead ingested by waterfowl along Great Salt Lake exceeds acceptable ac-ceptable levels. However, this criteria has not yet been agreed upon by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. In other action, the Wildlife Board took undi r advisement a request by Utah Outfitters and Guides to reduce the certificate of registration fee for guides. At the August Wildlife Boad meeting, the fee was raised from $40 to $100. The Wildlife Board will continue to consider new names for Panguitch Hatchery until their next meeting in March. |
