Show Nine workshops offered for parents Gayle Drollinger, Director and Parent Trainer for Uintah County Preschool Services, will be teaching a series of workshops on a variety of subjects of interest to parents of preschool age children. All the workshops will be at 10 a.m. in Room 22 of Uintah High School. The first workshop will be held Jan. 21. The subject will be "Let's change disable to enable" stressing that what a child can do is much more important than what he can't do. Parents will learn to capitalize on their childs assets and to use those assets to strengthen development in every area. On Feb. 4 "Sensory motor integration - its value in the development of the young child" will be discussed. Sensory motor integration is important to the development of every' young child. Participants will be taught various activities to stimulate sensory motor skills. During the workshop selected students from the school's dance class will demonstrate sensory motor movement. On Feb. 18 the topic will be "What it takes to make it in elementary school." This workshop is a must for every parent considering kindergarten placement for their child. Six other workshops will be held dealing with areas to help understand children and their problems. Such topics as "Understanding autism - the mystery disorder," "A walk in another pair of shoes," and "Helping brothers and sisters of handicapped children understand" will be discussed. The workshops will be held on the First and third Thursdav in March, April and May. The public is invited. Anyone interested in-terested in attending should call the school (789-5409) at least one day in advance to register so that materials will be prepared for all participants. |
