She will be taking a job at the library as the Uintah County Historian while Creed Kidd, currently in charge of technical services at the library, moves into the director's position. As historian, a new position created by a bill sponsored by Sen. Glade Sowards allowing funds to be mill levied for historical and cultural use in the county, Mrs. Burton will be continuing con-tinuing work she has done in the past collecting histories for the county and expanding the library's regional history room for use by the public. "I will be helping people with research of the area and doing oral and written histories with some of the old timers in Vernal," Mrs. Burton said. She will be available at the library four hours a day, four days a week and will spend a fifth day interviewing people and gathering histories. Mrs. Burton has worked at the library for the past 10 years. "The library has grown immensely," she said. "Circulation has tripled since 1974 and many new programs have started. It's an awful decision to have to make after building up programs, but I'm sure the new director w ill come up with new programs that will benefit people I have missed." Kidd's plan as new director include upgrading the library's present collection, upgrading reference services ser-vices and eventually keeping up with the new technology of library kcience, he said. Kidd, who has been with the library since September 1979, commented, "I'm looking forward to the challenge, and I will try to carry on as best as possible with Doris' work. She has done an excellent job." Other staff changes will make Evan Baker assistant director. Melody Jordon will become the children's librarian and Aletha Stevens will be hired full time as a page for the library. |
