Show School district to celebrate Festival of the Arts in April "Light Up Your Life With the Arts" is the state-wide theme for this year's week of the Festival of the Arts for the Young, an annual celebration sponsored spon-sored by the Utah State Board of Education, the Utah State Office of Education, the Utah Arts Council, the Utah Congress of Parents and Teachers, and the Utah Alliance for Arts Education. The Uintah School District will begin its recognition of the week with the Festival of the Dance in the Vernal Junior High gymnasium on Monday, April 20 at 7 p.m. In addition to participation par-ticipation by all elementary schools, performances will be given by the Community School Ballet, Dinah Dancers Square Dance Club, and the Uintah High School Drill Team. The Festival of Music will be presented in the Vernal Junior High auditorium on both Wednesday and Thursday, April 22 and 23, with performances per-formances beginning at 7 p.m. each evening. Included on Wednesday's program 1 are the Vernal Youth Orchestras, the West Junior High School Band and Chorus, and Naples, Todd and Maeser Elementary Schools. Thursday's program will include the Elementary Honor Band and performances per-formances by students from Ashley, Central and Discovery Elementary Schools. The Festival of Fine Arts and Crafts will be held in the Vernal Junior High School gynmasium on Friday evening, April 24 from 5 to 9 p.m. and continue on Saturday morning, April 25 from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. There will be arts and crafts exhibits from each school, vocational and industrial arts displays from the secondary schools, and displays and demonstrations from members of the community who exhibit their work and share their talents during these two days. The adult art exhibit is under the direction of the Little Gallery of Arts and all artists of the area are invited to hang their works even though they may not be members of the Gallery. Contact the president of the Little Gallery of Arts, Dennis Paulson, 789-1010, between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. for details. Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. will be the special fun for children with Arts and Crafts event which is being sponsored by the Current Topics Club. This was a great success last year and even more fun things are planned for this year. Included will be bubble blowing, collage, dress-up, face painting, finger painting, music, 'potter's 'pot-ter's wheel, sculpture and many more. There is no charge for any of the events of the Week of the Festival of the Arts for the Young. Come and bring your friends. |
