Hit and run injures youth at Maeser corner A 1978 Ford Thunderbird sped away from the scene after hitting the front wheel of a six-year-old's bicycle throwing the youth into the right side of the vehicle at the Maeser Corner Tuesday, April 14. Michael Palmer, 6, of Maeser reportedly came out of the Country Cash Market and was crossing 500 North at 2500 West from the southwest corner at 6:20 p.m. Tuesday. The boy was nearly a foot into the traffic lane when an east-bound vehicle side-swiped the front tire of his motocross bicycle. The youth was thrown into the side of the vehicle causing a gash to the front and back of his head and a broken collar bone, reported Gary Cutler, Utah Highway Patrol. Palmer was taken to the Uintah County Hospital where he was treated and released. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Brad Palmer. From a description of the vehicle provided by several eye witnesses, Vernal City Police apprehended a male Ind ian from Salt Lake City at the scenic overlook, west on Highway 40, about 10 minutes after the accident. Ronald Bennaly, 26, was charged with leaving the scene, driving under the influence of alcohol, and driving on revocation. He was incarcerated in the Uintah County Jail. |
