Show DUP studies history of Utah Pioneers Camp Vernal DUP held their April meeting on April 17 at the home of Ella Feltch with Ila Herbert and Mildia Jones as co-hostesses. A dessert lunch was served to sixteen members and one guest, Voneal Madsen. The history was read by historian, Mildia Jones on the life of Jane S. Rich, grandmother of Mary Freeman. Jane was born in South Africa. She came to America with her family as converts to the LDS Church. They arrived in Salt Lake City October 3. 1860. After she came to Vernal, she worked as a clerk in the old Ashley Co-op store for fifteen years. During that time she built the old Cottage Hotel on First North and Vernal Avenue., where she lived and rented rooms for many years. She died Nov. 4, 1925. The lesson on "Music and Dancing" was given by Mary Freeman. County president, Deon Merkley, told the group that the Museum would open June 1 and that there would be a cleanup clean-up day prior to the opening.
