Show WoTTTTTjr"""S"5"'8 5 8 8 8 10 BIT Public building construction plans Dear Editor: I have never seen such a bunch of stupid plans for schools, churches, county buildings. Job Service, Social Services, Post Office, hospital, etc., as in the Vernal area. At the hospital you must walk through long halls no matter what door you come in, in order to see a patient. Didn't anyone think of putting a door directly into the waiting room? Then the intensive care rooms have to be passed by every visitor and cause a constant disturbance to extremely ill patients. In the schools and even some of the new churches in the area, there are low ceilings in the gyms and the balls hit them, causing damage and also deflecting the balls. Many games cannot be played because of the designs. We live in the coldest area of Utah and yet plans were approved for new buildings for Job Service and Social Services with walls built entirely of brick. The wind blew through the walls and rustled the papers on the desks and the employees were so cold that they had to use small electric heaters. An expensive job of putting insulation on the inside walls was later done to both buildings. Yesterday I tried to go in the back door of the Uintah County Building and guess what? Now you have to go up the back stairs to find out that there will soon be an elevator to get into then go up half a floor to continue on to the north end of the building. In the meantime you have to go outside or around the building to get from one end to the other. I have wondered about the intelligence in-telligence of some public officials but now I know. I hope that someone will speak up in defense of the taxpayer, old and-or crippled people before any more money is wasted on some asinine plans. I'd like to suggest that the next time a building is planned, that is going to be paid for by taxpayers, a board comprised com-prised of several women, should meet first and give some orders to the architects ar-chitects and then give final approval before any building is commenced. Women who clean houses soon learn to save steps and energy. I think they will use a bit of common sense. I am hereby volunteering to be on such a board if it is convened. Sincerely, GERALDINE CARROL |
