Show The Ancient Muskmelon The muskmelon was cultivated in Persia, Turkistan and along the shores of the Mediterranean long before the Christian era. In this country, most of its' favorite varieties vari-eties are called cantaloupes after an Italian nobleman of that name. As a result of long scientific breeding breed-ing today's cantaloupe is a much "meatier" melon than its ancestor of a generation or two ago. Careful seed selection and production have developed a thin skin, thick meat of a golden tint and a very much smaller seed chamber. |
