Show ANNUAL REPORT ON STATE FIRES IN 1947 RELEASED The Utah State Board of Forestry Fores-try and Fire Control has completed the annual fire report for unpermitted unper-mitted and accidental fires on state and privately owned .forest and watershed lands for the year 1947, according to 'John E. The compilation shows that 158 fires burned 16,017 acres Following Follow-ing is a brief summary of the 1947 report compared to the five-year average 1942-46. In each instance the 1947 figures are given first, the average for the previous five-year five-year period second: Total number of fires 158;124. Number of fires under one-fourth acre 21; 16. Number of fires one-fourth to ten acres 74; 53. Number of fires over ten acres -63;55. Number of fires by causes: Lightning 24, 12; railroads, 23, -9; campers, 9, 5; smokers, 21, 19; debris-burning, 35, 17; incendiary, 0, 2; miscellaneous, 23, 17; unknown, un-known, 23, 33.
