Show Suffocation Is Responsible Baby Causalities An estimated 2,500 children under one year of age will die accidently this year. This grim possibility was forecast fore-cast this' month by safety experts of the National Conservation Bureau, accident prevention division divi-sion of the Association of Casualty Casual-ty and Surety Companies, in a warning against mechanical suffocation suffo-cation by babies. 'Winter months take the heaviest toll of tiny tots, and many of these deaths result from ill-advised attempts to keep the children warm by adding more or heavier covers," the bureau pointed out. Heavy duty safety pins, or blanket clips designed especially for the purpose, should be used to fasten blankets securely and keep them off the baby's face. Also high on the hazard list are soft pillows left in cribs. Pediatricians uniformly warn that the danger of respiratory infections and the possibility pos-sibility of their causing spine deformations de-formations make pillows unhealth-ful unhealth-ful as well as hazardous. |
