Show FOOD M0D1UZAT10H CIMT OUT Farmers Asked to Prepare for Self-sustenance in Event of War. Special to The Tribune. OGDEN. March 2S. Following out the plan which he announced several days ago for the mobilization of food resources re-sources of the state and to urge intensified intensi-fied farming during the coming season. D. D, McKay, president of the Utah State Farm bureau, today mailed out to every county farm bureau a letter outlining the proposed operations. One of the principal princi-pal features of the plan is a card -riling system for ascertaining the food resources and to permit of mobilization of these supplies sup-plies in the shortest possible time. Mr. McKay's letter is as follows: Permit me to call your attention to the appeal sent out by the secretary, of agriculture urging all to joint in the movement to increase the yield of foods for both animal and man. In case war is declared the transportation transpor-tation facilities of the country will be largely tied up with the movement move-ment of troops and munitions and therefore it is imperative that each locality be at least self-sustaining. Every effort should be made to bring under cultivation every available acre in your county. Lay your plans at once and during planting time preach and teach diversified crops and bigger big-ger yields. As a preliminary to this movement move-ment let me suggest that you enlist the aid of your local newspapers in a campaign to get every farmer in your county as a memner in your organization. ' Have a card printed with a place for the name and address ad-dress of every farmer, the number of acres in each crop, the yield and surplus. sur-plus. On the. same card have a place for the number and kind of livestock on each farm and the surplus. These cards can be kept in a filing case such as you use for keeping track of membership. mem-bership. The products can then bo mobilized without waste or delay, whether for peace or war. Let me urge you to make every effort ef-fort to increase as much as possible the food and forage in your county. |
