Show RICKEY CONTROVERSY STILL IS UNSETTLED PT. LOUIS, March 25. A proposal to submit to the national commission the question as to the right of Branch Rick- , ey to leave the service of the St. Ixmls Americans to become pifesident of the St. Louis Nationals was made tonight by P. D. C. Ball, president of the Americans, Amer-icans, and was turned down flatly by James C. Jones, trustee of the National league club, hecause, he said, B. B. Johnson, John-son, a member of the commlsison. was "utterly unfit" to act as a judge in thf matter. Mr. Jones and others who are backing the plan to purchase, the National league1 club by popular subscription, must raise 5S3.723 by Friday, when the option obtained ob-tained from Mrs. Brit ton expires. They announced 591,277 already had been pledged for stock. 1 Judge Rhodes E. Cave of the circuit court issued a restraining order tonight, preventing Branch Rickey, former business busi-ness manager of the St. Louis American league baseball club. from acting as president of the St. Louis National league company, or from entering the employ of the latter company. In addition, the order restrains Rickey from furnishing to the National league company any information he obtained in the performance of duties while in the employ of the America n league company. com-pany. The order is returnable to the circuit court' for hearing next "Wednesday morning. morn-ing. Mr. Rickey, however, through his attorneys, at-torneys, waived service and filed notice of his voluntary appearance in the circuit cir-cuit court tomorrow morning. |
