Show APPLE BOXES SET ASIDE FOR UTAH Manufacturers of Oregon Make Effort to Meet Demand for 700,000 toy Promising 100,000. With a view to meeting the demand of growers in Utah for 700,000 apple boxes, J. Edward Taylor, secretary of the state council of defense, announces that the box manufacturers of Oregon, in a meeting held at Portland Thursday, decided to appropriate 200, U00 boxes for Utah's use. One hundred thousand boxes will be supplied immediately and the remaining 100,000 boxes within two weeks. Oregon's offer came as a result of tho plea made by W. C. Geddes, Utah representative of the Oregon Lumber company, and member of the fruit box committee of the state council of defense. de-fense. Mr. Taylor reports that peach pickers are urgently needed in Davis and Weber , counties. He is attempting to obtain ' the necessary labor from the Salt Lake ; City schools. So far he has beeu advised ad-vised that Onequa, Jackson and Wash-ington Wash-ington schools will each furnish to1 bovs, but more are required. Mr. Tavlor also reports that the stats council of defense has succeeded in obtaining ob-taining coal for farmers who need tho fuel for their threshing machines. He says that already about fifty cars have been shipped to the farmers in different r districts, and he does not believe that ' there will be any shortage of coal in the food-producing fields to handicap the growers in gathering their crops. |
