Show GRANITE STUDENTS HAVE JOLLY TIME Get Acquainted Day Ts Big Success, With New-comers Made Happy by OM-timers. The high school closed for the day at 1 p. 111. aud met iu the big auditorium audi-torium to witness a well arranged programme, pro-gramme, which included jokes and puns between the different classes, by the class presidents, a short dramatic sketch, a welcome address to the new students by the student body president and several short, spicy recitations. Excellent Ex-cellent music was arranged by Gustavo Schuster and Miss Shauna Tout. After the programme all retired to the campus cam-pus to take part in several field events, among which the following were the big features: A flag rush between the sophomores and freshmen, a pie eating contest between be-tween the faculty and the junior high students, a walking race between the male members of the faculty and their lady colleagues, a tug-of-war across the Mill creek stream between the juniors and the seniors and a huge watermel-lon watermel-lon "bust." In the flag rush the freshmen upheld the traditional record of the school by defeating their opponents oppon-ents by a 23-to-19 score. Jn the pie contest the junior infants simply outclassed their superiors in every stage of the race. After the seniors had' succeeded in giving the junior boys a cool plunge in Mill creek the entire student body assembled as-sembled on the campus to dispose of a load of watermelons and fruit, which was furnished by the student body. It was here that all displayed their best abilitv and took an active part in the big ''free for all." When the grimy atmosphere of the melon battle had cleared away everyone retired to the gvm, where Schuster's baud was in readiness with an excellent, programme and the rest of the evening was spent in dancing. |
