Five member? of tho staff of the Philadelphia Philadel-phia Ta;c!'latt, arrested during a raid on the offices of the Uermnn newspaper newspa-per charged with violations of the espionage act in publishing articles which, government ag'-nts niiege, tended tend-ed to promote the sue. -ess of trie enemies ene-mies of the L'nited States, were today given a further hearing and held in .fi,i.mo bail each to await the action ot the federal grand j'.iry. Witnesses examined at the hearing were summoned before the grand jury which considered the cace today. , The- men held are Peter tkhayer, president of the Tageblatt; Paul Vogel, treasurer; Louis Werner, editor in chief; Dr. Martin Darkow, managing editor, and Herman Lemke, business manager. The sixth man arre6ted in the case, "Waldemar Alfredo, was discharged dis-charged for lack of evidence, nothing having been shown that he was an officer offi-cer or au editor of the paper. He was |
