' ' ' i l! , -, j Orpheus Club Is Planning More Work Nineteen hundred and sixteen marks the Iwcnty-tifth year of the Orpheus club of Salt Lake. For a quarter of a century this club, whh h is a male singing organization, organ-ization, has met Tuesday nights and rehearsed re-hearsed the music, under the able direction direc-tion ot . H. Reabody, and has been heard in concert and assisted by some of the world's famous artists. Mr. Pea body has given his unselfish and talented services throughout the twenty-five twenty-five years without reimbursement or thought of pay, other than the pleasure it has given him and the appreciation of the club members and the public who have enjoyed the entertainments of the club. There are seventy active male singers in tiie Orpheus (duo. and because of .the ever-in creasing number of the membership member-ship the of doers have formulated new rules and regulations. 'Pile officers met at the Commercial club for luncheon Saturday noon and made plans for future public appearances. The next concert was not definitely decided de-cided upon, but the lub will probablv excel! a ny performn ncc of the past, as every singer is one of no mean ahilitv and the seventy voices are all Pained and drilled in excellent concert form. Th club has two or three complete concert programmes In its repertoire. Hand Opera Chorus to Dance Saturday Next Saturday night at the Le Grand ward amusement hall all members of the John T. Hand opera chorus and friends plan to dance the hours away. -A select orchestra has been engaged and arrangements arrange-ments are made to serve refreshments. Peabody, president for Utah of the National Federation of Musical clubs, made a statement yesterday regarding re-garding the question of the contest among candidates for entrance into the second biennial contest, which will be held next spring. The Utah candidates will be heard next Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Ladies' Literary club. The statement of Mrs. Peabody follows: fol-lows: "When teachers have taught pupils for a year or more they should have reason to be proud of their own work and that of their pupils: glad to have it compared with the work of other 1 teachers and brought to the notice of I the public, wdio will pay attention I to such teachers: wdio feel that a re-i re-i ward "won because of merit" is worthy In itself and worth more than I a money reward. And when all the states in the I United States take up the work of I helping their most talented pupils, rich or poor and the best musicians consider this work of great importance impor-tance the teachers and musicians of a state or city should he public-j public-j spirited enough and patriotic enough i to help the cause for American music mu-sic in every way. To save embarrassment to contestants, con-testants, no names will be mentioned, with the exception of winners. New names of judges have been added 'to the list, among them being that of Professor Philip Bausbach, violinist and organist at St. Mary's cathedral.
