Show IPROHITSHE IN INCLOSED CARS A. E. Tonresen, manager of the Randall-Dodd Randall-Dodd Automobile company, said, yesterday: yester-day: x Scientific revolutions are not born without travail. No epoch -marking discovery, invention or creation has come easily or lightly. This tipplies to the automobile Industry just as it does to electrical development or any of the most modern inventions. There was a time when the limousine limou-sine was the only lype of inclosed car known, except where there happened hap-pened to be one of those two-passenger affairs known as a coupe. Today, however, there fro all sorts of winter automobiles the sedan, cabriolet, coupe, town car and a few o tliers thai have fa ncy names attached at-tached liy their makers. Only a few years iibo it cost as much for a well-designed and splendidly-finished limousine body as it does today for an entire car, convertible con-vertible top and all. This is not to say that the very expensive bodies are not still made, but the American Ameri-can pi i hi !r: is more inclined to favor the all-year mo-lei for all purposes. Where a f-imily desires it. in many in-slnnces in-slnnces an all-year convertible model is used today for limousine purposes nnd an ordinary model is maintained for summer touring. Body builders have been laboring for years to eliminate the hundred-nnd-one rattles which generally come with a limousine or inclosed hody car fitter a few weeks nf service. It has been an uphill ficrht, but the builders build-ers have virtually won the battle. The windows have been the chief source cf Iron hie, but when a wln-dmv wln-dmv is lowered in one of the newest models if is hidden as mm plot civ ?s if it had never been placed in the. body. When il is raised, it is taken for gr.mied that it was built there, so perfect has the work been performed. per-formed. The general trend of the desicnerg has been toward simplicilv. This npnlies, of course, to the regular stock cars, for, if it is desired, a pun-baser mil get almost anything he wants in interior finish these days. It is just a matter of pri ce. The levclonmonl which has marked the a u (nrcnbi !e indust rv in t lie past ten years has been nothing short of phenomena). WhPe I am not in a position po-sition to mmte stntisties on the subject. sub-ject. I imagine that the nutomnNIo Industry is kef-ping mice with electrical elec-trical cnmnanii-s in tlie matter of development. de-velopment. Ka di year sees some ma rked f m-provemenls m-provemenls in ;tll , en i s. and I ven- I lure Die prediction that more changes i will mark Ihe next ten years of the antoTi'oMte industry thnn have come to pass in the past decade. 1 |
