Show STOCK-HANDLING LAW HELD UNREASONABLE Nebraska Supreme Court Hands Down Important Decision Affecting Shipment Ship-ment of Live Stock. LINCOLN, Neb., Dec. 9. The Nebraska Ne-braska law requiring railroads to transport trans-port live stock in shipments at an average aver-age rate of eighteen miles an hour on main lines and fourteen miles an hour on branches less than 125 miles iu length was today declared unconstitutional unconstitu-tional by the state supreme court. The ruling came in the form of a decision on three cases against tho Northwestern railroad, consolidated and appealed from Brown, Dawes and Holt counties. The shippers had obtained ob-tained judgments for delays iu shipping ship-ping stock from South Omaha out into the state. The opinion of the court, declares the law unreasonable, if applied without exception, ex-ception, as it was. The law was passed in 1905 and amended four years later. |
