Plans for the consolidation of the canning interests of Utah were discussed by Thomas R. Cutier, vice president and general manager of the Utah-Idaho-Sugar company, and a number of local business men yesterday. The idea origi- j nated with 3frr. Cutler several months' ago. It is aimed to cut down the cost j or operation in the industry, inr. sutler sut-ler contends that the canneries of Utah are. making too' many brands, and that in their place one brand should be produced pro-duced and better selling methods em-pi em-pi a ved. T"he consolidation was the subject matter mat-ter discussed at several sessions held last -winter by business men and farmers, farm-ers, who came to the conclusion that because be-cause of the small supply of fruit grown in the state, the factories should confine con-fine their efforts to the canning of vegetables. Nothing definite was decided de-cided upon at the meeting yesterday. F. X. A. Eble and others are going into the plans, and it is possible a corporation cor-poration will be formed to take over all the independent canneries in the state. One million dollars is the estimate esti-mate of working capital figured upon to carry out the proposition. It is reported re-ported that a proposition is to be made to the canners of Weber and other counties coun-ties in the near future. |
