Show IDAHO TROOPS WILL BE RELEASED HERE Regiment of Infantry to Arrive About Same Time ! as Utah Battery. i BOISE DISAPPOINTED Reception Planned in the Gem State May Be Abandoned. Information received here yesterday indicates that both tho Utah battery and the Second Idaho infantry, representing repre-senting a total strength of more than 1200 men, will arrive, in Salt Lake from the Mexican border about the same time and both organizations will be mus-tered mus-tered out of the federal service here about the same time. Though the information is not definite yet, it is indicated that both organizations organiza-tions 'will start for Salt Lake in about ten days, and both will be at Fort Douglas for a week to ten days while the mustering out proceedings aro under un-der way. This will make Fort Douglas a fully garrisoned regimental post for a weeu or more, it is stated, and if both organizations or-ganizations reach here at the same time, as is now expected, the home-coming celebration will be ou a .big scale and will be an impressive affair. Tho strength of the Idaho regiment is about 1000 men and tho strength of the battery bat-tery is 165 men. Idaho Is Disappointed. Information that the Idaho bovs will be mustered out at Fort Douglas instead in-stead of at Boise city, where they were mustered in, comes from Boise, whero orders were received by Lieutenant Colonel William Wood, U. S. A., medical corps, to proceed to Salt Lake to muster : out the Idaho boys, who have iust been released from border duty after more than six months ' service. The news was a disappointment to Boise city, where plans were being laid i for a state-wide celebration of the home-1 home-1 coming, but it is received here with I pleasure because of the increased demonstration dem-onstration that may be made here in honor of both the Utah and the Idaho boys. Arrangements are to be made hero for a grand reception for all the boys, it was announced last night by members of the committee which will have preparation prepa-ration of the reception in charge. Tho committee is composed of Adjutant General E. A. Wedgwood, Major V, G. Williams, J. A. Reeves and E. G. Thomas. The committee will be called together early this week, it was an-no an-no u need. Question of Equipment. ' Just why the Idaho boys should be mustered out at Fort Douglas is not clear to the local national guard officers, offi-cers, unless it is because the barracks accommodations and other facilities afforded af-forded by Fort Douglas are more convenient con-venient and the war department decided de-cided because of this that it would bo more economical and satisfactory to have the troops mustered out here. Whether or not the Idaho boys will leave their equipment here or will take it to their homes in Idaho is a question about which local authorities have received re-ceived no information. It is known, however, that the Idaho boys will be I given transportation and subsistence : home from here. Coming of the Idaho boys has raised ! a question in the minds of the committee commit-tee as to whether or not a turkey dinner din-ner can be furnished as a feature of the home-coming reception. The committee com-mittee rather doubts its ability to provide pro-vide turkey for more than 1200 men. However, this matter will be discussed further. |
