Show WOULD ALTER PLAN OF CHECK CLEARING Present System of Collection Held to Be Inequitable and Excessive to Both Banks and Public. NEW' YORK, Dec. 9. The committee commit-tee of twenty-five appointed by the American Bankers' association at its Kansas City convention in September to study the advisability of an amendment amend-ment to the check collection sections of the federal reserve act, will meet in Chicago on Monday to discuss the question, it was announced here today. Fifteen mombers of the committee are country bankers and ten represent city institutions. Under the clearing and check collection collec-tion system now operated by the federal fed-eral reserve banks the charge for collection col-lection is held by many bankers to he inequitable, in that it is declared to be excessive to both the banks and the public. Six thousand replies received bv the association to a referendum submitted to the banks of the country indicated an overwhelming opposition to the federal fed-eral reserve board's present check clearing clear-ing plan, it was said today. |
