Show MURDER IS VERDICT OF CORONER'S JURY New Theory Injected Into Case of Mysterious Killing Kill-ing at Ogden; ; Special to The Tribune. . OGDEN, Dec. 9. The murder theory was injected into the Reber Shaw rase today when a coroner 's jury returned a verdict of. death from a gunshot wound inflicted with felonious intent by unknown un-known parties. The verdict comes as a surprise in view of the fact that tho ; police were at first inclined to believe l it a clear case of suicide. . fc Shaw's body with a gunshot wound 'behind the right ear was found in the two-room abode of John Sargent near Jefferson avenue and Thirty-third street early last Wednesday morning. ' Although the officers who investigated invest-igated the case are not strongly inclined i to the theory that Sargent committed the act, yet the man is being held in the city jail until he recovers from a prolonged spree. Even after the finding find-ing of the body last Wednesday, Sargent Sar-gent continued drinking so heavily that he could not testify intelligently before the coroner's jury. The two men had been drinking to gcther for several days prior to Wednesday, according to the police. From the best information that could be obtained from Sargent, who lived alone in the isolated cabin, the two men had not been together on the night prior to the shooting. When Sargent returned home late Tuesday night he was intoxicated, and said he stumbled over Shaw lying on the floor. Supposing Suppos-ing the man to be sleeping off a drunk, he said he urged him to get into bed. Failing to obtain a response he placed a quilt over him to let him sleep on the floor all night. About 6 o'clock Wednesday morning Sargent said he again tried to arouse his companion, and then discovered that-he that-he was doad. When Sergeant T. H. Blackburn and other officers investigated investi-gated they found that death had resulted re-sulted from a gunshot wound behind the right ear. 1 A .38 -caliber revolver was found on the floor beside Shaw's body. Officers testified at the inquest that ! the weapon had been held close to the j man's head, for the hair and nech were I powder-burned. |
