Show Brigham City News. Special to The Tribune. BRIGHAM CITY. May 28. At the regular reg-ular meeting of the city council, held Wednesday night, the question of saloons sa-loons and intoxicating liquors came up in the form of an amendment offered by the chairman of tho comniittoo on laws and ordinances, to sections 16S-170-179. chapter 12. of the Rovised Ordinances of Brigham Citv. Tho amendment as presented pre-sented provided for the Increasing of saloon licenses within tho city from $1000 per yoar to $1500 per year. Also provided pro-vided for the closing of all saloons, pool and billiard halls and bowling alleys at 7 o'clock p. m. The amendment made it unlawful for any person to sell or give liquor to any person, malo or female, under tho ago of twenty-one years. Tho recommended amendment caused a great deal of discussion dis-cussion in the mooting. Some of the councilmen took tho stand, and stayed with It. that if tho saloon license was to bo Increased the saloon proprietors should bo granted the privilogo or keeping keep-ing their places open until tho usual closing clos-ing time, U o'clock, or 9 o'clock at least. Those two members of the council wero also willing to vote for tho 7 o'clock closing, clos-ing, provided the license remain the samo as heretofore. The amendment finally passed bv a vote of 3 ayes and 2 noes, and will go into effect on July 1. 1909. |
