Show Large Sum Is Paid for Sugar Beets Special to The Tribune. LEIll, Nov. 13 Tho Lchi sugnr factory fac-tory on .Monday will pay to the farmers farm-ers of Utah. Sanpete and Sevier counties coun-ties .$330,000 for sugar boots. Checks for tlio above sum were sent 1)3 registered regis-tered mail to tho sevoral agents today and will bo ready for distribution to the farmers on tho morning of the fifteenth. fif-teenth. Besides this largo sum paid li the beet growers, the company, last Wednesday,. paid over $30,000 to their factory omployecs at Lchi and the cutting cut-ting stations at Provo, Springyil q and Spanish Fork. The factory at. Lehi and all the stations are literally swamped with beets, every shed being filled, lo overflowing, ami huge piles aro being slacked outside. Tn Sanpete and Sovier counties there aro 11.000 Ions slacked .beside tho railroad tracks awaiting ears to haul them to ihe factory. Besides this the farmers havo 25 per cent of their crop siloed in their fields, and will haul them fo the mill tho latter part of December. Thoro has been a bumper crop this season, there not being a single locality of poor beets. The tonnage has not only been a largo one, but tho beets also run high in sugar, which will make this the banner year in tho factory's history, so far as the output of sugar is concerned. Because of the unparalleled unparal-leled weather during the past, month, less than 10 per cent of the crop remains re-mains in the ground, and a week more will sec tho entire crop harvested. IMic factory continues lo grind over IM0i tons of bci-ls each twenty-four hours, but. owing to the immense crop the run will continue into the latter part of .Tanuarv. Of the -J500 bags of sugar being sacked daily, much of it is being sent to Missouri river points, some is going to Utah merchants, and the balance bal-ance is being stored in the big ware houses at the factory. I'Jugcne Koberts. formerly head, machinist ma-chinist at the Lehi sugar factory, is in Ijdii today installing some attachments to the evacualors which he formerly installed in tho centrifugals in the Lohi factory. Tho invention was patented bv Mr. Roberts, who is now general manager of a corporation organized lo exploit his invention. He has just, returned re-turned from Grand Junction. Colo., where he installed one of his improvements, improve-ments, and will leave hojJP week for California, whero he will install several sev-eral in tho factorioe there. As soon as Mr. Itoberts complete his work in California he will go to Louisiana, and from there to Europe. His evacuator, besides increasing the capacity of each centrifugal., 'will mean, the saving of work that is. now done by from iifleeir to forty men in every sugar factory in the world. |
