Show 0BEYFUS GRANTED A NEW TRIAL Court of Cassation Orders n Rehcnr- ing in the Famous French. Army Case. PARIS, March G. The criminal branch of the Court of Cassation today granted the appGal of Alfred Dreyfus for a revision of his trial at Rennes. The court held that a 3UfllcIent showing show-ing had been made to warrant a reopening re-opening of the caw and ordered a supplementary sup-plementary investigation for tho pur- -nose of establishing all tho doubtful points which havo been the basis for the present application to reopon the case. The decision Is another marked suc-ceso suc-ceso for Dreyfus, although it Is not yet final, owing to the extended supplementary supplemen-tary investigation which must follow the court's decision. Tho decision was given at tho close of the third day's hearing. Comparatively little public Interest has been taken in the sessions of the court and the courtroom court-room was almost deserted, there being leeu than fifty persons present at tho final seDsIon. Among' those were Maltre Laborl, the famous lawyer, who do-fended do-fended Dreyfus at Ronnes. Most of tho day was given to the address ad-dress of Maltro Mornard, one of Drey-fus's Drey-fus's counsel. He- argued that tho charge made against Dreyfus is a tissue of invention. He closed with an eloquent elo-quent appeal, saying tho honor of the army and ltB officers demanded the removal re-moval of tho stain of this unjust conviction. con-viction. An Incident occurred during M. Morn-ard's Morn-ard's address. Counsel referred to Drey-fus's Drey-fus's great qualities of heart and exalted character, and turned towards M. Laborl La-borl as If making a personal appeal to have his statements confirmed. Thereupon There-upon M. Labori arose and left tho courtroom court-room cauolng some commotion. M. Laborl was quoted as saying in the corridor that he did not winh by his presence to confirm the eulogy pronounced pro-nounced upon his former client's heart and character. Following M. Mornard's address the court retired, remaining closeted for an hour, and then returned and gave out the decision sustaining the appeal for a revision of tho trial. |
