Twelve Bountiful High School seniors were among approximately 300 outstanding outstand-ing high school seniors who spent two days at Utah State University acquainting themselves them-selves with the campus, meeting faculty members and taking competitive examina-ions. examina-ions. HIGH SCHOOL seniors from throughout the United States traveled to Logan to compete for five University Club Scholarships ' worth $5,000 each. To be invited in-vited to the competition, the seniors had to be in the top five percentile on American College Test scores or be semi-finalists in National Merit Scholarship competition. competi-tion. The exams helped university univer-sity officials decide which students will receive the University Scholarships. Over the six years that the competition compe-tition has been in effect, nearly half of all the outstanding out-standing students who have entered have subsequently enrolled at Utah State. Many who have not won the University Univer-sity Scholarships have received other awards for their collegiate work. PARTICIPANTS include Repper Murray, son of Robert and Beverlee Murray. Murray is a member of the varsity ice hockey team, Rodeo Club, and hopes to major in veterinary science. Mark Pedersen, son of Gaylen and ' Mary Ann Pederson, is a member of the hockey and baseball teams. He is on the-school newspaper staff and hopes to major in business or engineering. en-gineering. Val Goodfellow, son of Don and Joyce Goodfellow, is a member of Honor Society, Forensics, and Model U.N. He hopes to major in engineering. engineer-ing. J. KEVIN West, son of J. Donald and Norma West, is a member of the tennis team, Honor Society and is listed in Who's Who of American High School Students. He hopes to major in science or history. Stephen Eiting, son of Norman Nor-man and Dorothea Eiting, is a member of Honor Society, math and Spanish clubs and swim team. He hopes to major in pre-law or engineering. engineer-ing. ROBERT Mortensen, son of Boyd and Lucille Mortensen, is a member of Honor Society and math clubs. He hopes to major in business. Don Hartman, son of Maurice and Patricia Hartman, Hart-man, is a member of photo club, ski club, and track enthusiast. He hopes to major in metereology or environmental environ-mental sciences. JANA Satchwell, daughter of Burton and Carol Satchwell, Satch-well, is on drill team, madrigals, and Honor Society. She hopes to major in computer science. Nolan Larsen, son of Lee and Dawn Larsen, is a member of photo and ski clubs and enjoys drama. He hopes to major in science. RHETT Mitchell, son of Robert and LaRee Mitchell, is interested in music, debate, and hopes to major in prelaw. |
