" '' JZ Nearly every LDS home in the area knows, or has known. wuwr what it means to have missionaries out somewhere in the IfllSSIOl a A R I ES world. But now they have a chance to see them working right here in the south Davis area. Four young men now serving are, 1 tor, Elders Foutz, Davis, Little and Murset. These young men are serving serv-ing as full-time LDS missionaries mis-sionaries in the Bountiful area. THEY ARE laboring in the Utah-Salt Lake Mission, which also has 107 other mis-. mis-. sionaries serving throughout Utah. They come from various parts of the country to serve a two year mission. .President of the, mission is Ernest Eberhard Jr. who has presided over two other missions. mis-sions. ONE question" which arises is what makes young men like these decide to devote two years of their lives to complete service .in the church. Many of them leaving friends, college, girl friends, families and good jobs. v When asked this question this was the reply of these four missionaries: ELDER Murset, Sherman Oaks., Calif. "Ever since I was very small one of my goals in life was to go on a mission. I don't think this was brought about by any pres- sure on anyone's part, it was just something that I wanted to do. I also felt it was necessary neces-sary for me because I felt I owed it to the Lord, because of all he did for me. There was some selfishness involved in-volved also because I knew how much I could grow and develop. IT WAS easy to compare returned missionaries and those young men who didn't go on missions. It was obvious to me at that time that I could benefit both myself and my fellow men by serving on a mission." Elder Little, Manhattan, Kansas. "The biggest and most determining factor in my choosing to come on my mission was that I felt I had something important to share with people that would not only bring them joy in this life but also in the life to come. I HAVEN'T always wanted to go on my mission, there was a time in my life when I felt I didn't want to take the time. However, through prayer I asked my Heavenly Father what it was he wished me to do. The answer I received has brought more happiness to me in mv life than I ever thought possible." Elder Davis, Birmingham, Alabama. "The main reason I decided to come on my mission mis-sion was to help those around me have the happiness in their life that the gosepl has brought into mine. No greater satisfaction comes out of life than service to your Heavenly Father and to those around you. PEOPLE hear a lot about the church but, unfortunately, many of these things areh't true so they have a lot of misconceptions about the church. I am hoping to help people understand the church a little better. People just don't understand under-stand the happiness that the gospel has to offer. But I can bear my testimony to all that the church is true. And I hope that people will listen to what we have to say before judging us. OUR reception here in Utah has been fantastic, by members and non-members alike. The members are great!" Elder Foutz, Farmington, New Mexico. "I had never really planned on going on a mission because no one in my family had served before me. WHEN I turned 18 I gave it serious thought and prayer. I am thankful to be on my mission at this time in Utah, and I know the Lord is blessing bless-ing me and my family. I know the church is true and the Book of Mormon is the word of God and was translated by a true prophet. This is the reason for coming on my mission, so that I can share the joy and happiness that I have received through the Church with others." Nearly 600 people have joined the LDS Church in the last two months in Utah alone. |
