Show 97th Date Leo Hunsaker will celebrate his 97th birthday on February 15, at the home of his daughter and husband, where he now lives. Grant E. and Irma Peterson, 585 South Main. Bountiful. BORN Feb. 15. 1879 in Honeyville, Utah, he is the last survivor of 50 brothers and sisters, children of Patriarch Pa-triarch Abram Hunsaker. His 1 II LEO HUNSAKER mother was Catherine Jensen. Jen-sen. After graduating from grade school, he attended B.Y. College at Logan and in 1896 enrolled in the old Salt Lake Business College where he studied business administration, adminis-tration, shorthand and bookkeeping, graduating in 1897. IN THE same year he was selected assistant general secretary of the Deseret Sunday Sun-day School Union Board of the LDS Church and also secretary secre-tary of the First Council of Seventies, serving for three years. Mr. Hunsaker was sustained sus-tained as stake clerk in 1902, of the original Salt Lake Stake, which was divided into four stakes Feb. 10, 1904. SERVED three years as clerk and private secretary to ' the district superintendent of the OSL Railroad Company and worked at various trades, farmer, flour mill operator, painter and decorator contractor. con-tractor. Married Theresa E. New-meyer New-meyer in 1904 and they had six children. He has 13 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren, all living. RETURNED to Honeyville in 1910 where he was active in church and civic affairs and was councilman and mayor for eight years. He also worked as a Federal Prohibition agent from 198 and with his partner, was instrumental in-strumental in the arrest and conviction of more than 250 bootleggers. LATER was forman of Deseret Industries in Salt Lake for 12 years and was chaplain of the 175 laborers After the death of his wife, he married Mattie Mane Tyree who died in 1970. Mr. Hunsaker expects to live to 100 years of age and says "my prescription for long life and good health is work and to enjoy mental, physical and spiritual fitness." kj |
