The story of a 19th-century, storm-plagued inn and the mixture of characters who gather there is the subject of Bountiful High School's tenth annual school play, "The Tavern." George M. Cohan, in one of his most successful endeavors, wrote and produced "The Tavern" in 1920. Bountiful High's production, directed by Bryan Bowles, will be performed March 25-27 in Bountiful High's Auditorium. George M.'s burlesque treatment of this play has delighted countless audiences. The action begins In Freeman's (Don Robinson) tavern as Zach, the tavern keeper's son (Michael Johnson) John-son) warns the hired girl, Sally (Jolene Cottle), and the dim-witted, hired man, Willum (Brian Ga.retl) to beware of the two strangers hiding in the woodshed. The two strangers, a Vagabond (Kent Hayes), and a mysterious lady, Violet (Holly Smith), add thickening to the plot. The plot hardens when, just by chance, Lamson, the Governor (Rhett Mitchell), Mrs. Lamson (Laura Yancey), Yan-cey), Virginia, the Governor's daughter (Sheryl Anderson), Virginia's fiance, Tom Allen (Rob Schmidt) arrive at the tavern. A good deal of confusion con-fusion results as the characters begin accusing each other of foul deeds. THE SHERIFF (Mark Meier), Ezra, the sheriff's man (Tom Alley), Joshua, the Sheriff's other man (Michael Johnson), and Tony, the sheriff's third man (Paul Spencer) take charge of the situation attempting to un tangle the confusion. They, however, are only successful in magnifying the dilemma. The attendant (Paul Dymock) finally arrives at the tavern to untangle the knots created. Your entire family will find this a delightful play full of laughs and mystery. |
