Show Idea Is Rooted: Bountiful To Plant Trees By DAVE WIGHAM Bountiful Mayor Morris Swapp signed a certificate indicating the cities acceptance accep-tance of the Million Trees for Utah. THE PROGRAM is being cosponsored by the Governor and the Deseret News. City officials noted that already 123 trees have or will be planted along 500 South, and that numerous trees will be planted at the new golf course and at the various parks throughout the city. Mayor Swapp indicated that he would like to see each neighborhood organize themselves them-selves and purchase and plant the trees together so that in years to come the entire street and neighborhood will be beautified. MR. BOOTHE of the city planning division will assist anyone interested in this program as to what type of trees are best and that the city will let be planted. It was also mentioned that local nurseries will give a discount on the purchase of the trees if the people will indicate in-dicate that they are taking part in this program. ALSO THE council gave its approval to the building of a new 30 foot by 60 toot storage building adjacent to the existing water building on 200 West and 1050 South. Several members of the Meadow Lane subdivision expressed their concern to the council in regards to this new building. THEIR main concern was in regards to the flow of traffic traf-fic along 1050 South. They indicated in-dicated that the road is very narrow and that the extra traffic would make it more congested than it alreadv is. The city officials stated that this new building would not mean any more employees or traffic through that area. They also indicated to the citizens ci-tizens that the city's traffic control department would look into the narrow street situation. si-tuation. THE CITY fathers also approved a new ordinance which will allow the city to change its utility rates by a resolution instead of a new ordinance. As it stands now if the city wanted to change the utility rates it would have to make an entirely new ordinance. With the passage of Ordinance Or-dinance 76 the city can change the rates by resolution. |
