Hello again and welcome to j, another exciting episode of pOden'sOde! ; If there is anyone that thinks Viewmont doesn't have talent ..they should read this! This 'month seems to be an award" winning month for Viewmont. To start off... one of View-"mont's View-"mont's talented seniors. Miss 15 Marianne Weed was chosen as "Utah's own Junior Miss after a ' big competition event in which ':he girls were judged in five M;ategories--poise and appearance, ap-pearance, talent, personality 'judged in a judges interview), inter-view), physical fitness and j icholastic achievement. h. MARIANNE won first place n three out of the five ategories, plus runner up to Miss Breck", a side compe-Ition, compe-Ition, besides winning the '"oveted title, "Miss Junior tiiliss". For Marianne's talent ie sang a beautiful soprano solo titled, "Musetta's Waltze" from the opera La Boheme. She will now travel to Mobile, Alabama and compete in the national convention. She is looking forward to the two weeks that will be spent there. THE PAGEANT will be aired on national TV on May 11. We are all so excited for Marianne. She deserves it and we all wish her the best of luck. Congratulations Marianne! This wasn't the only award that has been awarded to Viewmont students lately. Viewmont's Art Department is rated the best in the state of all the high schools and it has been prove at a recent art show. THE ANNUAL Springville Museum All Utah Art Show is being displayed throughout the month of February. This is an art show between all of the high schools in Utah. On Saturday January 31 a program was held to announce all of the awards that were given. There were first, second and third places given in each category and each college in the state gave one scholarship to a deserving student. There were nine scholarships given all together. GUESS WHICH school walked away with the most awards out of over 600 entries? That's right, Viewmont! Winning Win-ning the ribbons in their categories were: Dave Hansen, Han-sen, a first place in drawing; Colleen Bronson, second place in water color; Pat Shane, second place in oils and Greg Brisco, third place in oils. S - ' ' r i HOWARD JAQUES VIEWMONT even had more scholarship winners than any school. Walking away with scholarships were two very excited seniors. Howard Jacques, winning a scholarship to Weber State in the field of jewelry and Karie Folster, winning a scholarship to Brigham Young University in the field of art in general. i ': I j KARIE FOLSTER ' v Congratulations to View-monts View-monts Art Department and special thanks to a devoted and special teacher, Mr. Roger Cushing, Mr. Weight and all the others. "EVERY litter bit hurts", "Support your local trash can", "warning, the surgeon general states: littering may be hazardous to your school". These are just a few of the signs you'll see around Viewmont View-mont for the next few weeks. Viewmont spirit will be shown during our anti-litter campaign. We hope to convey to each student and to every visitor to Viewmont that we have pride and it will show in our halls, so if you take a walk down one of the halls in Viewmont View-mont don't be surprised if you see many a student watching their feet, they're not introverts, in-troverts, just conscientious Vikings. SPORTS wise Viewmont is heading for the state tournaments tour-naments with lots of spirit in basketball. Layton Lancers here we come! Yes, folks, this Friday will be the day when we pull our strength on a team that we lost to the last time around. Victory, that's our Viking battle cry! JV begins at 5:45 and Varsity at 7:30 p.m. on Layton's court. OUR MUSICAL has been . brewing lately and just beginning begin-ning the many long hours of long and tedious practice that is necessary of all of View-monts View-monts great productions. This year's musical was chosen as "The Student Prince", leads are talented Mark Egan and Marianne Weed. This promises to be a theatrical thea-trical experience you'll never forget. More information will be given as the time comes closer so don't miss any episodes of Oden's Ode! VALENTINE'S Day is right around the corner and View mont is ready. One of the activities ac-tivities which will be'going on is the junior class Valentine committee. The Junior Class is sponsoring sponsor-ing "Singing Valentines", to be sung in person or over the phone for just 50 cents ! FOR ONLY $2 send a song and a long stem rose. How does that sound for fun?
