Show Wool production increases Wool production in Utah during 1981 was 6.01 million pounds, up six percent from 1980, according to the Utah Crop and Livestock Reporting Service. During Dur-ing 1981, 590,000 head of sheep were shorn -15,000 more than the year before. The average fleece weight came in at 10.2 pounds, up 0.3 pounds from 1980. The per pound price of Utah wool, during dur-ing 1981, was 92 cents-up two cents from 1980. Value of last year's wool crop topped $5.5 million, up eight percent per-cent from a year ago. U.S. wool production was 109.8 million pounds, up four percent over 1980. The number of sheep shorn rose to 13.5 million head, up two percent from a year ago. Average fleece weight for the U.S. was 8.14, up 0.19 pounds from last year. Average price per pound was 94.5 cents, up 6.4 cents from 1980. Total value of the U.S. wool production hit 103.7 million dollars, up 12 percent from last year. a i A A & |
