Show NBA NEWS Mike Dunleavy hit a pair of three-point field goals down the stretch as the Houston Rockets overcame a 14 point deficit in the fourth quarter and defeated the San Antonio Spurs 95-93 in National BasketbaL Association action Sunday. The Rockets, winning their seventh straight game, scored 18 of the game's last 24 points, including Dunleavy's three-point basket that tied the game at 93-93 with 41 seconds to play. Robert Reid's jump shot from the corner with eight seconds left gave Houston the victory after Mark Olberding's attempted at-tempted three-point shot at the buzzer for San Antonio rimmed out. Houston, which now trails the Spurs by one game in the Midwest Division, fell behind 84-70 with 9:35 to play when Dave Corzine's jump shot gave the Spurs their biggest lead of the game. San Antonio still led by 10 at 87-77 with 5:07 left when Dunleavy's three-pointers three-pointers started a 13 run by Houston that brought the Rockets to within 91-90 91-90 with 1:02 remaining. The Spurs, losing their fourth game in a row, fell to 44-31, just one game ahead of Houston, 43-32. Moses Malone led the Rockets with 21 points and 15 rebounds, while Reid added 20 from the floor. The Spurs were led by the trio of Mitchell, Olberding and George Gervin, who each had 20 points. Celtics 114, Bulls 112, at Chicago Larry Bird scored 16 of his game-high game-high 29 points in the fourth quarter Sunday to help Boston fight off a late rallv. Boston now has won three games in a row and 21 of its last 22. Chicago lost for the fifth straight time. Lakers 129, Blazers 111, at Los Angeles Forward Jamaal Wilkes scored 34 points to lead Los Angeles. Wilkes had 22 of his points in the first half as Los Angeles, 51-24, took a 63-55 halftime advantage. The Lakers stayed on top the rest of the way although the Trail Blazers got as close as three points, 80-77, midway through the third period. Los Angeles outscored Portland 13-3 over the next four minutes to take a 93-80 advantage and wasn't threatened seriously after that. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Norm Nixon added 24 and 22 points, respec-. respec-. tively, for the Lakers. Nixon also had 13 assists. Earvin "Magic" Johnson had 20 points, seven rebounds, 10 assists and seven steals for Los Angeles. |
